Tooth Fairy’s Daily Routine

In my last blog, I shared with you 9 Facts about the Origin and Identity of the Tooth Fairies. It included exclusive information the Tooth Fairy shared with me during her Birthday Party.

Back to my new series: The World of the Tooth Fairy. Today, I will share with you 9 Unusual Facts about the Tooth Fairy's Daily Routine. Are you ready? 

How many times does the Tooth Fairy visit a child?

The Tooth Fairy visits each child about 20 times. Why? Because we have 20 milk teeth. However, it takes us between 6 and 7 years to replace them all. Our “Teeth Replacement Adventure” begins around age 6 – 7. Personal Note: For late toother, like me, it began at 8!!! (arrg) 

During her first visit, the Tooth Fairy collects one of our central incisors. By the end of the year, she had visited us 8 more times. She will then clean them and bring them to the Teeth Room. When we are between 7 and 12, she will visit us 12 times to collect the rest of our milk teeth! 

My dentist told me that between 12 and 13, I should have all my permanent teeth.

Curiosity Fact: Total of Teeth

We have 20 milk teeth: 8 incisors, 4 Canines (Cupids), 4 first premolars, and 4 second premolars. 

We have 32 permanent teeth: the other 12 are: 4 first molars, 4 second molars, and 4 third molars. 

Where do children place their lost teeth? 

Mom and I searched online and found many unique traditions around the world. We divided our findings into four categories. Wow, I sound like a true researcher. (wink) 

Tooth Fairy: 

• Tooth is placed under the pillow: Canada, some European countries like Germany, Philippines, and USA 

• Tooth is thrown onto the roof:  China, Japan, some regions of India, South Korea, and Turkey

• Tooth is placed inside a slipper: South Africa

• Tooth is buried: Philippines, India, and Japan

Ratón (Ratoncito) Pérez/La Petite Souris: 

• Tooth is placed under the pillow: Some Latin American countries and France

• Tooth is placed in a glass of water:  Argentina. The water is for the mouse. He gets thirsty from all that hard work. 

• Tooth is placed on a bedside table or under the pillow: Spain

  
  

Curiosity Fact:  

South Korea: Children throw the tooth onto the roof as a gift for the Magpie. These birds are a symbol of luck. If the bird finds the tooth, the child will get a new, healthy tooth. 

How does the Tooth Fairy collect the tooth without waking up the child?  

The Tooth Fairy has many ways to collect the lost tooth. My Tooth Fairy “Raia” opens her traveling bag and lets a bubble out. Each bubble is labeled with the child’s name and has a gift inside. The bubble floats softly under the pillow and swaps the tooth for a gift. It then flies back to her.  

The Tooth Fairies living in Fairyland are very small. She slides under the pillow, swaps the tooth for a coin or a gift, and flies away. In other countries, different animals collect each tooth for her. The most famous teeth collector is the small mouse, Ratón Pérez. 

The Tooth Fairy worked unnoticed for many years until one day in 1894. The young King Alfonso XIII was eight years old and had just lost a tooth. Aha, he was a late toother like me! Queen Maria Christina contacted the famous author, Luis Coloma-Roldán (1851–1915), and asked him to write a story for King Buby, his nickname. The night before, Mr. Coloma went for his evening walk. He saw a mouse coming out of the Palace carrying a golden tooth. To his surprise, the mouse wore a red jacket and glasses.  He followed the mouse quietly and saw him entering the basement of the Prast confectionery store in Madrid. 

What does a child get in exchange for the tooth?

In most countries, the children get a coin or a small gift. The average amount left by the Tooth Fairy depends on the tooth. In other countries, children wish for a new, healthy, and strong tooth. 

How does the Tooth Fairy find a lost or misplaced tooth? 

The Tooth Fairy uses a Tooth Locator. This is a very sophisticated piece of equipment. It is shaped like a tooth and has a screen. After the Tooth Fairy enters a code, the tooth is immediately found. She is very clever.  If the tooth is lost while the Tooth Fairy is going back to her castle, Fairyland, etc., then the Detective Tooth Fairy and her Team find the tooth. I mentioned her in my last blog, 9 Facts about the Origin and Identity of the Tooth Fairy.   

How does the Tooth Fairy carry all the teeth? 

I was wondering about the same. First, the Tooth Fairy shrinks the tooth using a “Schrinkeling Device.” This unique device is shaped like a molar. It is only used by the Tooth Fairies. How does it work? The tooth is placed inside, and it shrinks immediately!  Then she hangs them on her glow-in-the-dark dress. This special effect helps her to move around in the dark without awakening the child. Other Tooth Fairies or mice use a special neon-glow traveling bag. It is small, practical, and has plenty of space inside. 

Curiosity Fact: 

The Vikings have two interesting traditions: 1) The mom will pay the children for their first teeth. 2) The dad wore it as a necklace. It was considered a “lucky charm.”  

What does the Tooth Fairy do with the collected teeth? 

My Tooth Fairy uses them to illuminate her castle. They look like endless rows of teeth-lightbulbs inside the Teeth Room. Other Tooth Fairies use them for cooking, making instruments, repair her castle, making dancing shoes, etc. I will tell you more about that in future blogs. Stay tuned!

How does the Tooth Fairy travel from her castle? 

My Tooth Fairy travels with the Shooting Star Express!  Other Tooth Fairies fly with their wings. I almost forgot to mention the “Teeth Rockets.” They are only used by the Detective Tooth Fairy and her team. A very special group of Tooth Fairies travels using water, wind, or heat.  

How does the Tooth Fairy get to all the kids’ bedrooms so fast?

My Tooth Fairy uses a secret door to go to the next home. There is a special trick to open the door. She takes out one of the bubbles with the child’s name and address. As soon as the moonlight shines through it, the secret door opens. It takes her to the next home, and then it closes behind her. Other Tooth Fairies use different teleportation techniques to move quickly before sunrise. My next two blogs will be in German.
